Killing deer?

deer hunting equipment
Blackstroke asked:

It costs a fortune to go hunting these days. All the equipment you have to buy, the license, etc. Then they only limit what you can hunt and when. And when a car hits a deer and the 2 kids inside the car die, what do the authorities say? NOT ENOUGH HUNTERS!!!! YOU THINK!!!

Isnt really a question is it.

  2. JD says:

With all due respect this isn’t a question it’s a “statement”
    What exactly is your point?

*If you can afford to buy a Guitar, you can afford to by a license and go hunting like the rest of us….

  3. jccollegegirl03 says:

You have a very valid point.

There is another problem you haven’t mentioned and that is the hunters. All these hunters go out wanting that prize buck and won’t shoot anything else. How can you control the deer population if hunters just go after the trophy animals.

What’s your question? Why does hunting cost so much? Well, consider the millions of yuppies who infest the woods a token week or two during the year. Like they care how much it costs, as long as they can go back to the office and brag that they killed something. License fees keep going up due to the government cutting funding every time you turn around. Someone needs to pay for the DNR and the warden’s salaries and the upkeep of public hunting lands.

You know, I started off answering this question intending to argue with you but I guess I agree lol.

Start hitting deer w/your car and you wont have to spend the money on a license.

I keep saying it until I am blue in the face, NO state manages deer for the heards, It is ALL about money. Period.

  7. DJ says:

It does seem that in many states the populations of deer are out of control and that the simple solution is to offer more tags and keep the population in line.

While I am of the mindset that government does almost nothing correctly and need to keep their hands out of most things, I have a tremendous respect for most state wildlife officials and the job that they do. These are guys that know their business and do the best they can with what they have, so I still have faith that they are keeping track of populations and responding accordingly.

I don’t think it’s a problem of not having enough hunters. It is more a problem of not enough land to hunt. Areas that have been posted “no hunting” are where we have the most deer strikes around here. If you see one of the hunting clubs out working an area then we have less problems there. I am not a big fan for hunt clubs using dogs but it does cut down the number of wrecks each year. Once more land owners open there land to hunters, still hunters or dog hunters, it will make those areas all little safer also.

You can get a used rifle at the pawn shop for $200 and a license for $25 and your good to go, get an orange cap for $2.50, vest for $10….. you can spend over $1000, or you can get thrifty and go easy on the cash…. my rifle with scope cost under $400 new…. a savage…. my clothes cost another $200…. then binos and other small gear another $150 or so…. so I went the conservative route….

Do you expect people to give you a gun for free? Heck no. They would be out of business.

Deer will stop being hit by cars when there are no deer left in the country. Are you proposing that we kill them all?

The department of natural resources needs money to help improve the environment and to prevent poaching. They need the money from the deer licenses.

I hate to break it to you, but none of those things are about to change. The only thing you can change is your attitude.

Hunters only account for 15% of the population of the U. S. A. > That means 85% of eligible Hunter’s do not Hunt.** Here in Pennsylvania the Deer Herd is not very plentiful because of Mismanagement of the Deer Herd by Game Officials.**Overall Hunters are a Minority involved in the Sport of Hunting.**

  12. Maker says:

I think there are too many people, encroaching on the little bit of game lands that are left.

  13. padros says:

I agree it costs to much if you don’t own land. If you own land it is not as expensive because you can get farm tags. I think we need to shoot more doe’s!!!
