um… niner? asked:
i am just starting deer hunting and i have a pretty good shot… what is your favorite gun from present or past experience?
okay well i just looked it up and in my area you cant use any rifles above a .22 for deer hunting… what would be a good shotgun for deer hunting then?

Marlin 30/30 or Winchester
For close range hunting – 125 yards or less a Marlin 30/30 lever action would be great…..
For longer distance deer hunting a Remington 700 chambered in either .270 or .308 would be fine…..
Marlin….
Remington 700 SPS……
I use a .270 and love it. Other good calibers are the .243, .280, 30.06, and .308. I have shot the 30.06 and .270 and like them, and guys at camp have the others and like them. I killed a big bear last year with my .270. It has good power and low recoil. Any of these guns you will love.
I use a Remington 700 BDL in .270 caliber with 3x9x40 scope.
Other good choices are:
30-06
308
280
it all depends on how much recoil you want a 243 is the best for the hunter that doesn’t like a lot of kick. next would be the 270 has more kick than the 243 but still is very tolerable.about the mid range in recoil would be the 30-30 but some don’t want worrie about the mild kick but i still think it is one of the best .then theres the 30-06 has some what of a high recoil .any of these would due .it really depends on the amount of recoil.but if you dont want a whole lot of kick than i would highly recommend the 243 .
A Remington 700 in .308 caliber is an expellant and affordable rifle, and can be used for competition/ casual range time when not hunting. Oh dude check your states natural recourses department you may live in a shotgun only area.
I have two rifles that are my favorite. I use a custom TC contender in 30-30 in the woods. I have a Remington 700 in 7mm-08 I use in the open.
Remington or Savage in 30-06 Caliber.* Winchester 30-30 or 32 Winchester Special.* 8mm Mauser.*
Any 30/30 rifle will be fine for deer up to 150 yards. Most deer are taken at closer to 50 yards.Marlin,Winchester and Mossberg make a good not to expensive rife. The Wincheter was discontinued about 2 years ago.
There are many fine used ones around if you look.
